Fashion Week has got to be the most highly anticipated event in every fashionista’s calendar. It’s a time when designers from the big four present their latest creative juices in the form of dreamy fashion creations, Avant Garde art forms and of course, Haute Couture. Unless you work in the industry however (and sometimes even then) obtaining a coveted invitation to even the least high profile shows can be a difficult goal to achieve. Of course, you also have to travel to the events which simply isn’t practical for many people too, which is why we’ve developed your perfect schedule for keeping up to date with Fashion Week and even feel like you’re right in the midst of the action, without budging from the sofa. Here’s how you can get involved and prepare for Fashion Week, even if you can’t actually be there!
Finding The Resources

Firstly, you’ll need to find a legitimate Fashion Week website. Do your research before committing to any particular one as each one has specific goals. Some websites provide live streaming of the shows, others upload streams of the shows at a later date, which can be useful if you’re not free at that exact time. Many Fashion Week websites prioritize video, others photographs and for the rest it’s reviews and public reception. Choose the best one for you and your schedule, or work between a couple of them. Don’t forget to bookmark them on your laptop for easy and quick access.
Choosing Who To Watch

Once you’ve got access, you’ll need to download and print the schedule for each Fashion Capital so you don’t miss anything! It’s not necessary to watch absolutely every show but do try to choose a variety of events. The best way to do this is to break it down into categories; Headliners, Emerging, Creative and the Unknown. Headliners consist of the big household names, your favorite established design houses that show every year consistently. We’re talking Dior, Chanel, Versace, Burberry etc, the high profile design houses. Next is Emerging, these are the new, up and coming designers. There will be some hype about these designers in the media and it may or may not be their debut Fashion Week show but they should be fairly new. These brands are the ones to watch, the ones that are going from strength to strength. It’s important to study some of these designers as well as the high profile ones, these designers are often at the forefront of technology and innovation. After, we have the creative category. This is for the designers that really put on a show! Elaborate clothing, tech fashion, wonderland displays, theatrics and all that jazz! You’ll want to watch these, not only for the fashion but for the spectacle of the whole presentation. Designers such as John Galliano and Alexander McQueen are renowned for putting on a show! Lastly, we have the Unknown. The Unknown category is for any brand or design house that you don’t know anything about. They could be well established brands or relative new comers but the important point is that they are new to you. To get the most out of fashion week, you’ll want to learn and broaden your knowledge of who is out there, so it’s a good idea to pick two or three shows by designers you have never heard of each season.
Organising Your Schedule

I’m sure we’d all love to be able to take a month off work in aid of Fashion Week education but bills still need to be paid and the kids won’t feed themselves! Some of you might be lucky enough to be able to drop everything for the sake of Fashion Week but for the rest of us mere mortals, it’s all about multitasking. Whether you’re chilling in the house, working out or doing the dishes, you can be soaking up the fashion shows at the same time. Don’t forget to have a notepad or journal to hand. Pay attention to the types of fabrics used, repeated color palettes, even which models the designers have chosen. If you see a pattern forming, these will be the trends of the season and jotting them down for future reference is an easy way to stay ahead of the curve.
Hold A Fashion Week Party

If the boys can have their Super Bowl Sunday or their Fantasy Football Monday, you can have Fashion Week Tuesday! Grab your girlfriends, favorite snacks and get comfy so you can watch the shows all together. The best time to host your fashion week party is just after all four capitals have shown, that way you’ll be able to binge watch all the shows you want in one sitting.
Ultimately, Fashion Week sounds super glamourous but the reality of attending the events in person can be stressful and not very enjoyable if you’ve got a back row seat and multiple heads blocking your view. It’s also exhausting, particularly in Paris the shows are spread across the whole city and so the constant shuffling and catching the metro to the next show kind of puts a downer on the whole experience. By watching along at home, you’re certain to get the clearest view of the garments and you can be “attending” a show in New York one minute and in Paris with a click of a button. Fashion Week is an institution but trust us when we say you’ll probably have a better time joining it from a far!
