The Fashion Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

Podcasts are a great way to pass the time on your commute and the perfect alternative to reading. Whether you’re reading from a digital source or a good old fashioned book, if you have to stand, if there’s too many commuters or you have to change lines, you’ll constantly be putting away your reading material. Not so with a podcast, you can click play and put your device in your pocket and simply forget about it! Fashion podcasts are on the rise, particularly thanks to the Hermés fashion podcast release so here’s our favorites so you can get your fashion fix no matter where you are.

Hermés – Le Faubourg des Rêves

First up is of course the home of the Birkin Bag. The new Hermés podcast which translates as “The Faubourg of Dreams” is named after their first Hermés store address in Paris, 24 Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honore, aims to give us a behind the scenes look at how Hermés operates in 2019 and how they continue to be the successful brand they are. A relatively short podcast considering there are currently only nine episodes at twelve minutes long, you’ll be able to burn through this one pretty quick.  Their podcast is made up of interviews with some of their top employees, each describing their daily schedule and what they do on a day to day basis for the brand and how they feel about the brand themselves. Hopefully they’ll be adding some more episodes as it’s a very intriguing listen but it’s very early days for this podcast so time will tell whether it’s going to be a one off or whether Hermés will make this a staple part of their marketing.

Girlboss Radio

This is the latest venture by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso. If you loved her #Girlboss book and the subsequent Netflix Special based on the book, this takes a more up to date focus on Amoruso’s work. Throughout the episodes she interviews modern day girl bosses in a variety of different fields, discussing the lessons they learned along the way to becoming an established business owner or brand. Hilariously funny but also informative, if you’re in any way thinking of becoming your own boss or setting up your own business, you’ll love Girlboss Radio.

Vogue Podcast

Yes, even Vogue has a podcast these days! It’s hosted by the one and only André Leon Talley, former editor-at-large for Vogue but you might know him better as one of the snarky judges on America’s Next Top Model. He wasn’t shy about voicing his opinion on the show beside Tyra Banks and he’s not shy now on the Vogue podcast. More than just trending fashion news (which it definitely has) it also touches on what the gossip around the office is, giving us a glimpse into what it might be like to work at Vogue HQ – and I’m pretty sure we’ve all wondered what that’s like!

The M&S Podcast

We can’t stress enough how fashion podcasts are popping up everywhere and the fact that British Retailer Marks & Spencer now have a podcast says it all! This is a great one for anyone interested in learning about sustainability. Although very much in its infancy (there’s only a small number of quite short episodes so far) the M&S podcast delves into the implications of using certain fabrics, why high street stores are now struggling and of course, it also talks about the history of the British giant and how they are doing their part to ensure their production methods are sustainable.

BOF Podcast

Yes, Business of Fashion are also in on the podcast trend! The fashion bible’s podcast focuses on industry news, peppered with interviews from a wide range of experts on their field as well as celebrities. What’s unusual with this podcast is the often straight laced and to the point BOF opens up a little more, taking on taboo subjects and addressing some more controversial topics like the #metoo movement and discussing the real reason streetwear has become the go to style.

Unravel

The OG of fashion podcasts, Unravel has been around since 2015 and has gone from strength to strength. It’s theme is history, taking on everything from the history of the humble T-shirt to discussing with clergymen what their take is on the fashion industry using religious symbols. It’s diverse nature is what we love about it, you never know what topic they’re going to tackle next since they’ve been going for years, there’s a lot of back dated episodes to catch up on.

The Fashion Hags

The Fashion Hags was curated by three Vancouver fashion converts Abby, Evan and Katie. A super non serious podcast, these three comics run down to earth commentary for an hour per episode. There’s a lot of strong opinions thrown around which makes the podcast even more hilarious, it’s like being a fly on the wall when the groupchat gets together for margarita Mondays. Very entertaining, if you’re looking for a light hearted podcast that certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously but also provides interesting content, The Fashion Hags are for you!

Oh Boy

Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine is the genius behind the Oh Boy podcast and is another one on our list that keeps its content light hearted. Taking on topics such as industry diversity, how to dress at the airport and even the stigma of periods, Oh Boy is funny, entertaining yet informative. They also have guest interviews with people in industry, getting their take on that episode’s focus.
