Incase you didn’t know, the Fashion Awards is a ceremony founded by The British Fashion Council. This year it was in partnership with Swarovski and was held at the infamous Royal Albert Hall in London. Essentially, the Fashion Awards aims to recognize and celebrate fashion creativity and innovative design from individuals as well as brands and businesses. It’s based on the past year only and the criteria to fulfill involves having transformed the realms of fashion in some form.
What’s The Set Up?
This year’s date was set for 10th December with the nominees being announced about one month previous. It’s set up like a grand Christmas Party for all of those working in the industry from designers, businesses, models and editors to get together and celebrate. It’s not just for established brands but is also dedicated to showcasing new talent and rising stars. Aside from the prestigious accolade for winning a Fashion Award which as you’ve probably guessed by now, a pretty big deal, the Fashion Awards is also a fundraising event for the British Fashion Council’s charities. It raises funds to support fashion education programs, scholarships, mentoring for emerging talent and even hardship funds for students struggling with the cost to complete their education.
The Winners?
There were many amazing candidates but in the end, there would only be one winner. Here’s all of the nominees and exactly who went home with the award.

Alessandro Michele for Gucci?
Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga - WINNER
Jonathan Anderson for Loewe?
Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior?
Miuccia Prada for Prada
Those ugly triple S Balenciaga platform sneakers somehow did the trick and Gvasalia walked away with the prize. Gvasalia is also the brain child behind super street brand Vetements which produces on trend pieces with a little ugly pretty value – like that yellow DHL top that was everywhere but realistically was hideous - so it’s no surprize he has brought his shock value nature to Balenciaga too.

We’re certain Gucci can thank Alessandro Michele for that win. Gucci’s sales have increased by 50% each year since Michele took over as creative director in 2015.

Keller is infamous for being the first woman at the helm of Givenchy and before that she worked hard at creating a loyal fan base at Chloe. Keller also designed the Duchess of Sussex (Meghan Markle)’s wedding dress earlier in the year and so it only seemed apt that the Duchess should present the award to Keller, wearing of course, a one shoulder, black, velvet Givenchy dress.

The Red Carpet Looks
Black seemed to be a big trend among the attendees outfits, as did shimmering gold. Many guests wore elegant black gowns, simplistic yet stunning, while others opted for sparkling cocktail dresses in gold. Victoria Beckham definitely makes our best dressed list, her own brand black gown blends sportswear and black tie notions perfectly and we can’t get enough of that sleek side pocket in the gown. Not only is this a fabulous look and a new take on what dressing for the red carpet can mean but it also shows how far Victoria has come in her own fashion career.
Rosamund Pike opted for a more austere look from Givenchy haute couture, a stunning coat dress that squared the shoulders and swept the floor while her no makeup makeup and futuristic eyebrows completed the look perfectly.
Kaia Gerber made a dramatic entrance in her Alexander McQueen gown, complete with asymmetric cut outs and metallic fringing, the perfect dress for winning that night if you ask us!

No best dressed list would be complete with out the mention of Lana Del Ray. The singer’s Gucci dress with magician’s style floor length cape looked like it had been designed specifically for her, her outfit couldn’t have looked more Lana Del Ray-esque.
