Cashmere, the crème de la crème of fabrics, that never goes out of fashion. Real 100% cashmere scarves feel soft against the skin and rarely irritate even the most sensitive of skins, making it the perfect fabric for wrapping up this Winter. It’s true, cashmere is expensive so you’ll have to think of a cashmere scarf as an investment piece, a scarf that you’ll use each and every Winter and with a little care, a cashmere scarf can last a lifetime. Cashmere also keeps the cold out very effectively so a thinner scarf can go a long way. We love skinny to medium thickness cashmere scarves in classic rectangle shapes and neutral palettes like camel, ivory, blush, light gray and icy blue, the perfect frosty colors for Winter. When it comes to tying your scarf, the less fuss the better, allowing the fabric to really demand attention. Drape your cashmere scarf around your neck and let it hang loose, sweep one end over your shoulder for a scholarly look or simply cross the ends over and tuck into your coat or outerwear for maximum effect.

The Lambs Wool Scarf

If cashmere isn’t in your budget, a great lambs wool scarf is a great alternative! Lambs wool keeps the chill off your neck very effectively and if you choose a high quality, it shouldn’t irritate the skin. Some lesser quality wool can be very itchy when placed directly against the skin so if you find a style you love but is slightly irritating, don’t despair, you can still rock it, just be sure to style it over another garment and not directly against your skin. Wool scarves look great in extra wide styles and can add extra dimension to any basic coat or jacket that needs a stylist’s touch. Ultra wide wool scarves can be tied a number of ways but our favorite is a rolled and twisted look or those with extra long fringing can be worn with both ends swung over the shoulders for a truly chic look.

Silk scarves are more commonly associated with the warmer seasons but a silk scarf can look just as chic for Winter. The key to stylizing a silk scarf for Winter is all about layering. Layer a large rectangular silk scarf flat around the shoulders over a sleeveless jacket and a chunky knit sweater and finish off the look with a belted middle for a city chic vibe. You can also style a smaller silk scarf with one delicate knot to give a necktie effect which is ultra feminine. Silk scarves don’t provide a lot of heat but they do feel really good against the skin and what they lack in heat they make up for in lux style. The best silk scarves for Winter 2018 are simple one color styles or highly pigmented prints. Try using a vibrant printed silk scarf to add a splash of color to your outfit or use a solid color scarf to create a tonal outfit from head to toe – a very European look for this Winter.

The Snood

Snood styles for Winter 2018 are heading back to home grown basics. Hand knitted scarves and snoods are having their moment in the limelight this season with styles being hand crafted with love, each knit and purl stitch created with passion. This is great news for local and small businesses so shop around and try to support them if you’re planning on adopting the snood trend this season. You’ll find that hand knitted snoods are created using much higher quality yarns and can often also be made to order using the exact yarn colors you want! Snoods are fabulous for those who want maximum coverage around the neck and thanks to their versatility, can also double as a hood for keeping the chill off your head and ears too. Consider your face shape when it comes to shopping for a snood. Those with round and broad faces will look best dressed with a long and low hanging snood while those with elongated or oval shaped faces can pull off tighter, neck hugging styles.

The Fur Stole

Fur scarves (faux only please – we’re all about kindness to the animals!) are ideal for Winter, the perfect texture to compliment any outfit in the colder seasons. Faux fur scarves and stoles come in so many different variations but for 2018 we’re loving the mix of natural and dramatically unnatural colors. The thicker and fuller the better and worn slung over one shoulder or cross body looks ultra lux. Of course wearing a faux fur scarf over the top of your coat will be the most practical but if you’re brave enough not to wear a coat, don’t be afraid to wear it with just a high neck or roll neck sweater.
