Yes, that’s right, online fashion brand Pretty Little Thing, otherwise known as PLT have launched a see through plastic collection aimed at making all your festival dream outfits come true! You’d think they would have learned from the see through jeans saga over at Topshop a few years ago, but no. They’re back and back with a vengeance in the form of a full collection and we can’t quite believe what we’re seeing.

It’s true that by marketing towards festival goers instead of your everyday wear does change things a little, after all, major festivals like Coachella are renowned for embracing outrageous outfits but we’ll get to the practicalities in a moment. First, let’s have a deep look at the collection without the context.

First up on the chopping block is a two piece, clear colored set, inspired by a double denim look. They’ve kept as many denim features as possible (except the actual denim fabric of course!) including massive amounts of top stitching, jeans fly front and metallic button closures. It also comes in hot pink should colorless plastic be a step too far! As you can see, it really doesn’t leave much to the imagination so thankfully PLT have suggested through their campaign, that this outfit be worn with a white, two piece bandeau bikini underneath. Yet in their styling notes they advise it be worn with hot pants or shorts, mildly better than exposing your butt cheeks on the streets. Although there’s a full collection for us to get through yet, this is the outfit that has gone viral and become the butt of all jokes. Many fans are likening the outfit to cling film and claiming they’re going to make a fortune from their kitchen supplies. Other fans just simply can’t understand why anyone (festival goer or otherwise) would want to wear this.

Of course, with all the hype about the see through trousers from Topshop as well as the see through ankle boots era, we wondered whether they had fixed the sweating issue that made those plastic fashion pieces steam up and become not see through due to the built up moisture and bacteria. Well, according to model Agnes Tomas who took to the streets of London to test out the look head to toe, apparently not. She also admits the pieces were incredible hard to get on and off, she felt sticky the entire time and she was sweating, a lot! Furthermore, the smell of chemical plastic was rather overwhelming and the noise of the plastic squeaking together as she walked was enough in itself to turn heads and make her feel uncomfortable. Together, the two pieces cost a mere £50 GBP which is a fraction of the price of the runway equivalents, which to our dismay, there are in fact a lot of! But then we as fashion lovers need to be grounded and remember that some pieces of fashion are only meant for the runway and that’s okay!

Incase the trouser set doesn’t appeal to you, PLT also have a plastic bandeau top and skirt set, lucky you! We can’t quite figure out which outfit is worse but the fact that this model’s underwear is barely visible in the photo, don’t help their cause one little bit. This two piece comes in hot pink too which provides minimally more coverage than the colorless options. There are also some seriously scary lime and violet numbers in the collection and perhaps worst of all, nobody, not even PLT themselves seem to be sure of exactly what these “mixed fibres” are actually made from.

Now you’ve seen the collection as it is, it’s time to put the context of festival fashion back in. People wear all sorts to festivals and to be fair to PLT, there are some pros to these squeaky see through outfits. Festivals like Glastonbury are infamous for their attendees getting muddy after a couple of days in the fields and tents and with it being held in the temperate climate of Great Britain, it’s more likely to rain than not. At least with these outfits, you’ll stay dry from the weather elements and with one quick wipe, you’ll be clean and mud free in an instant, that’s pretty awesome to be honest! Unfortunately, that might be all that’s awesome about these outfits, outside of the campaign and back in the real world, you’ll have your Iphone in your pocket and your wallet or purse in another. Talk about being a pick pocket’s dream! How many times have you simply stuffed a paper note of money into your pocket and not back into your wallet because you’re rushed or under pressure from the next person in the queue? If you’re anything like us, constantly! Now not only is your wallet on full view but also your actual money, making you a walking target for thieves. While we’re on that, there’s also some things you might keep in your pocket that you don’t want other people to see, like snotty tissues, a spare tampon, doggy poop bags! Sometimes it’s not just about drawing attention to the things you don’t want people to steal but also the things you don’t want to advertise you’re carrying but are necessary.

However much we and most of the rest of the world think this collection is beyond ridiculous, we just know there will be at least a hand full of people sporting them at the next festival – consider this your forewarning, you’re going to see them, prepare your eyes!
