Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the hottest trends of the moment that we forget about the trends that weren’t so great but were just as memorable! It’s time to take a walk down memory lane to remember the worst of the worst and the trends that will haunt our most embarrassing photos for years to come! Are you ready?!
Clear Plastic Fashion

At one point it felt like clear plastic was the only material available in fashion. From clear plastic boots, tote bags and even jeans, not only was this trend completely impractical, it was also totally disgusting and at times a hub for bacteria! Let’s start with the culprit who started this whole plastic extravaganza, the clear plastic boot. Worn by the Kardashian Jenners, Rhianna and pretty much every influencer out there, see through plastic boots from ankle to thigh high versions broke the internet. Of course, that was until the rest of us decided to give this trend a go and we realized the one thing the celebrities had been hiding from us in their photos…that after ten minutes, your feet start to sweat like crazy and disgusting condensation started to appear making our squeaky clear shoes now have a steamed up finish. All that moisture not only looked terrible and made the shoes really slippy to walk in but was also the perfect breeding ground for nasty bacteria to fester, leaving some unfortunate girls with a foot infection!
As if we didn’t learn our lesson from the clear shoe saga, we then moved on to jeans and shorts because, why not! You could have your pick of a pair of fully clear and see through pants, presumably designed to be worn over your regular pants for a reason I cannot explain, or more humble blue jeans with carefully placed clear patches, again, we’re not even sure why these existed. Of course, if you were a clear plastic veteran, you might have opted for the more daring version of colored plastic, still completely see through of course!

Finally and unfortunately, there was and still is a trend towards clear plastic handbags and tote bags. Some people choose to use these bags by themselves, exposing all of their essentials they carry around with them to the whole world –because what could possibly go wrong by showing pick pockets exactly what loot they could be helping themselves too?! Other clear bags, the ones we are still seeing being carried around these days are more like cellophane gift wrap for your bag, the idea being that you put your bag inside another bag, for…no reason at all!
Bucket Hats

An awful early 2010’s trend, all other hat shapes besides a bucket hat were lade obsolete. I didn’t matter that this hat was originally made for burly fishermen or that the bucket hat had been worn by the killer in multiple horror films, we all still ran out and slapped one of these babies on our scalp. The worst styles were made of PVC, shiny and brightly colored but the denim ones with embroidery or studs weren’t much better to be honest. Of course, we all thought that by flipping the brim up at the front and adding an arts and craft style flower made this fisherman staple a high fashion item but we’re here to tell past you, it didn’t.
Corset Belts

As if we didn’t rid ourselves of the traditional corset for any good reason, the powers that be had to bring it back in the form of a corset belt. Seriously unflattering, a corset belt suits no one and instead of cinching in the waist and giving that elusive hourglass figure like they were supposed to, instead they just made anyone without an hourglass shape look like a sausage squeezing out of its skin. They were so uncomfortable too, forget going out for dinner let alone sitting down without the bet riding up under the bust.
A step up from the corset belt, next came built in corset belt tops, much more comfortable yet just as ugly and unflattering. Don’t get me wrong, corsets have their place and that place is underneath a sheath dress not on a t-shirt when you’re heading out for Sunday brunch!
Patterned Tights

Next up on the list has got to be the patterned tights saga. Whoever thought colorful patterned tights would flatter any human legs was beyond wrong. Even the slimmest of legs look chunky in these monstrosities and are only one step away from a Cirque de Soleil costume.
Wedge Sneakers

Wedge sneakers, what fresh vileness these were! Part sneaker part high heel fashion statement, they’ve got to be one of the ugliest shoes ever created. They didn’t look good, they didn’t feel good, they were simply no good. Thankfully this trend disappeared quickly enough and only the die hard trend followers gave this one a try. Hopefully if you had a pair of these over the past decade, they are now firmly in the trash were they belong, never to see the light of day again.
Dipped Hem Dresses

A dipped hem sounds so innocent and we’re still a big fan of a dipped hem when done right but the mullet style dipped hem dresses we saw pretty much everywhere at one stage were just as ugly as their hairstyle counterpart. Mini in the front, maxi in the back, the only view they looked acceptable from was the side, enter lots of celebrities standing side on for their press photos! Some sort of trickery was at play with these dipped hem dresses, making any shape of leg look thick, sometimes it’s better not to have the best of both worlds and from now on you’ll just have to make a decision on whether you want a mini or a maxi dress look.
