Paris Fashion Week is finally in full swing and everyone in the city has upped their fashion game to compensate. Paris during fashion week turns the city into its very own urban runway with everyone from school children to grandmothers making a big effort to look their most fabulous selves during this fashion focused week. Of course, there are the shows that everybody is waiting for, particularly Chanel this year after the tragic loss of Karl Lagerfeld but we thought we’ve give you an up to date look at our favourites so far!

Saint Laurent

Now headed up by Anthony Vaccarello, it was the whole show that stole our hearts, making it impossible to choose just one look! The Fall/Winter 19 collection takes us right back to the core aesthetics of the Saint Laurent (formerly Yves Saint Laurent) brand. Pulling together the signature “Le Smoking” tuxedo and menswear inspired tailoring that are powerful and feminine all at the same time, the collection was impeccable from start to finish. Vaccarello has spent three strong years at the helm of Saint Laurent and has easily celebrated the legacy of the brand while still keeping the collections authentically Vaccarello-esque. Known for exploring and drawing inspiration from past eras of the brand, Anthony Vaccarello out did himself this season, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats, eager and drooling for the next outstanding look. Lina Berglund, Anna Herrera and Mads Mullins all walked for the brand this season while Vilma Sjoberg was the perfect modern day reflection of Yves Saint Laurent’s muse Betty Catroux, tying everything together like a chic YSL bow. Boiled wool coats with oversized lapels were layered with plunging necklines, tuxedo jackets were worn with bare chests and every broad shoulder crafted by hand. Vaccarello is known for his second acts, splitting up the collection into two very different themes. The second act for F/W 19 touched on World World II style clothing while the models walked under black light behind a glass mirrored wall, creating an infinite number of reflections. While it was an interesting idea, it was difficult to see the clothes clearly and to be honest the collection was strong enough not to need the gimmick.

Dior

Over at the Musee Rodin for the Dior Fall Winter 19 collection, we couldn’t get enough of the return of the signature Dior silhouette. In particular, Lara Mullin wore a sweetheart neckline grey tweed dress over a three quarter sleeve button front pussy bow top, all cinched at the waist with a chunky patent Dior belt. It’s a perfectly Dior outfit and Parisian style to the core, the only thing we weren’t sold on was the fisherman hat with fishnet veil but it is the runway afterall! The rest of the collection featured heavily with plaid tartan and took inspiration from the Teddy Girls of the post war era in Britain. These were working class girls who were feisty, who broke down gender barriers and who dressed almost exclusively in rock and roll style garments and thickly laid on eyeliner. As a result, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri produced a collection with a very clever idea and a modern day Teddy Girl in mind. Each outfit is created by layering separates, separates that can be worn by themselves to create casual outfits but that when worn together create a look ready for the red carpet. What busy contemporary woman wouldn’t love to be able to disassemble her ball gown to create multiple new pieces?

Balmain

The Balmain collection this season is another fashion power house that really is on top of their game. The Balmain woman this year is as she always was, strong, powerful, dynamic, edgy and now she has an added bad gal vibe too. Olivier Rousteing described her as a trouble maker, she’s got attitude and she doesn’t care one bit! But at the same time she can be sweet, she’s got an angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other and it’s pot luck which one she listens to. Each piece in the Balmain collection was as delectable as the next, so signature Balmain, so utterly Parisian. We could see the houndstooth, mock off the shoulder cape with silver shoulder buttons immediately draped around the shoulders of the lucky Parisians who can afford it! A simple sheer dress was given the Balmain revamp with the addition of pointed shoulders, grungy studs and a futuristic silver collar. Such an easy piece that can be worn as a semi-formal dress, a casual blouse with jeans or even to the club, it carries just enough drama without feeling costume. Finally, the super studded outfit of a jacket, blouse and mini skirt truly caught our eye and not just because of the frenzy of embellishment. The solid black blouse provided some much needed grounding in this outfit, while the studded leather mini skirt with envelope opening is begging to be a staple in the Fall Winter 19 wardrobe. However, it was the cold shouldered jacket that really stole this look, studded all over, it certainly makes a statement and we can’t think of a single Parisian woman who wouldn’t re-mortgage her apartment for a chance to wear this!
